The purpose of this article is uncover what a website page template is, why it's important, and how it pertains to your website project.
Before we go into too much detail about what a website template is, let's talk about why you need to know what it is.
A custom website page template is a pre-designed web page that can be used as a starting point for new pages on your website. Website page templates are created by web designers and provide a helpful way to make sure that all of your pages have a consistent look and feel.
When you are working with a web designer on your website project, it is important to have a clear understanding of what kind of requests and expectations are easy to fulfill and which ones aren’t. This article will help you better understand custom website page templates, how they work, and how they can be used in your website project.
First, let's talk about what a custom website page template is *not*. A lot of clients get confused when they hear the word "template" and think about cheap, pre-made themes or some form of generic design.
Yes, you can get a free or cheap template for your WordPress website, but that's not what we're talking about here. So what are we talking about when we say custom website page template?
A custom website page template is a framework. Think of your Facebook profile page. Everyone's Facebook profile page has the same framework: a profile picture in the upper left-hand corner, a banner image at the center top, a grid of squares with your pictures under your profile picture, and another display showing your friends under that. And it's the same design and layout for everyone on Facebook.
That is basically what a custom website page template is.. a framework that allows you to create a unique layout for your website. This means that you can have a completely unique design that is not like any other website out there.
When it comes to website design, think of your website as having a series of page templates. The most obvious one is your homepage.

Your homepage typically has a unique layout that's different from the other pages on your site. In fact, most sites have at least two website page templates: the homepage and the inner page.
Your homepage also has a unique design on the front-end (what you see on the page). But if it's developed well, there's also a simple setup in the backend that makes it easy to edit and update.
For example, Facebook makes it easy for you to update your profile picture or add images to your gallery. Now imagine for a moment if every Facebook profile page was different. What if, instead of the profile picture always being a circle, you could make it a rectangle or triangle? Or what if you could adjust the size to any dimension you wanted?
While it may be awesome if Facebook allowed users to customized the design of their profile page, it would actually lead to a number of problems. An inconsistent design can make a site look unprofessional, and it can be difficult to update and edit pages that have been customized by users. It's important to remember that page templates have a single development framework in the backend, which makes them much easier to edit and update.
As I mentioned before, challenges happen when expectations aren't met. Sometimes, a client might think that since the homepage is really detailed and has a lot of unique visual elements, every other page on the website will be just as intricate. Usually though, this isn't the case. Most of the other pages are less complex; they usually have more text and fewer design elements. There's usually a set framework for things like content, imagery, and navigation, and most pages stick to that same design.
So, what does all of this mean for you and your website design budget? Basically, if you need each page on your website to be unique and custom, it's going to cost more than if you're okay with using fewer, more generalized page templates. It's all about what you need and want for your site. We work with clients of all budgets and we promise that no matter how big or small your budget is, you'll still receive quality design work from us.
